A Vlasov equation with Dirac potential used in fusion plasmas
Well-posedness of the Cauchy problem is analyzed for a singular Vlasov equation governing the evolution of the ionic distribution function of a quasineutral fusion plasma. The Penrose criterium is adapted to the linearized problem around a time and space homogeneous distribution function showing (due to the singularity) more drastic differences between stable and unstable situations. This patho...
متن کاملQualitative Properties of the Dirac Equation in a Central Potential
The Dirac equation for a massive spin-12 field in a central potential V in three dimensions is studied without fixing a priori the functional form of V . The second-order equations for the radial parts of the spinor wave function are shown to involve a squared Dirac operator for the free case, whose essential self-adjointness is proved by using the Weyl limit point-limit circle criterion, and a...
متن کاملOvercritical PT -symmetric square well potential in the Dirac equation
We study scattering properties of a PT -symmetric square well potential with real depth larger than the threshold of particle-antiparticle pair production as the time component of a vector potential in the Dirac equation. Spontaneous pair production inside the well becomes tiny beyond the strength at which discrete bound states with real energies disappear, consistently with a spontaneous break...
متن کاملA quark model with Dirac equation
We discuss the strong coupling of heavy mesons to a pion ĝ, in the heavy quark limit. This quantity is quite remarkable since its values as estimated by different methods (various quark models and the QCD sum rules), are surprisingly different. The present quark models are mostly based on free spinors and their predictions depend crucially on the choice of the light quark mass. We propose a qua...
متن کاملSolution of the one-dimensional Dirac equation with a linear scalar potential
We solve the Dirac equation in one space dimension for the case of a linear, Lorentz-scalar potential. This extends earlier work of Bhalerao and Ram [Am. J. Phys. 69 (7), 817-818 (2001)] by eliminating unnecessary constraints. The spectrum is shown to match smoothly to the nonrelativistic spectrum in a weak-coupling limit. 3.65.Pm, 3.65.Ge Typeset using REVTEX 1
